What Moves The Lexus RZ?

The Lexus RZ is a front- or all-wheel drive vehicle, powered by one or two electric motors. As the RZ 350e, it features a 221 horsepower, 196.4 lb-ft of torque, electric motor driving the front axle. On the AWD RZ 450e, that's one on each axle. The result is what Lexus calls Direct4. In tandem, these two motors deliver 308 horsepower with 196.4 lb-ft of torque at the front and 124 lb-ft at the rear for 320 lb-ft in total. That's quite punchy and offers plenty of grip from the four-wheel drive system especially in inclement weather.

The power on the RZ 450e is sent in varying degrees between the front and rear axles. These vary according to wheel slip and road conditions. While most of the work is done at the front wheels, the rear can grab up to 80 percent of the difference for maximum grip rounding a turn.

The EPA estimates you'll get up to 220 miles* on a single charge. That, of course, depends on how your Lexus RZ is equipped, how fast you drive and more. As they say in the real world, your mileage may vary.

We're talking a two-box design here, but the reality is the RZ slots right between the compact Lexus NX and the midsize Lexus RX. There's no radiator to speak of but the front end still carries out the Lexus spindle grille concept, just without the openings.
